Melbourne has scored a brand new bar and music venue, called High Note. The venue occupies the shopfront spaces of the Northcote Theatre, and will host a year-round program of live music, workshops, art events, and more. It’ll be open six days a week (closing on Mondays), and will be open until 1am each night.

The new venture is being spearheaded by industry group Crown Ruler (responsible for throwdowns like Sun Cycle and Duke St Block Party), alongside DJ Umut Turkeri and Bolster Group’s James Clarke. “We wanted to create a diverse community-focused venue to suit High Street’s many moods,” Crown Ruler’s Jamie Bennett said of the space.

High Note Launches in Melbourne

“This is a special spot for people to meet and connect, the type of which doesn’t currently exist here in Melbourne.”

“In the heart of a vibrant community, the sound system becomes the beat that unites us,” Turkeri added. “It’s a testament to the shared ethos between High Note and the makers behind our sound system: the value of community and music as the force that binds us together.”

Audiophiles will be tickled to know that the sound system contains some vintage Altec horn drivers sourced from the Sydney Opera House, and restored by Turkeri.

High Note officially throws open its doors on Friday, 20th October with a DJ lineup from local radio stations, and on Saturday and Sunday, you’ll be able to catch a lineup of some of Melbourne’s finest spinners. To check out the full program, head to the website.
