wildweaselmi 1 Posted May 4, 2009 Share Posted May 4, 2009 I am a subscriber to the Video Promo Only subscription and of course my system is all digital. Starting in April 2009, Promo Only started offering there video's in mp4 format (DFF) which saves this hassle of trying to convert the DVD's to a digital format. I have searched all over the internet for an affordable (preferably free) method of converting these video's. The issue is that the video's are spanned across two chapters sometimes. So for example Chapters 1 and 2 are one music video but Chapter 5 is one music video. So I checked out MacTheRipper and it appeared it could do it, but when trying to extract just chapters it crashed but I still like the product for archiving/backing up my movies to protect them from my four year old. I also tried ffmpeg but couldn't figure out the needed settings to do this. All the searching the boards and discussions I ran into all pointed towards cinematize so I went and purchased the standard version for $60 It works great but it what a pain in the butt extracting one movie at a time. I have been working on this (not consistently) for two days and haven't even finished one DVD yet. Just checked out the PRO version and it appears you can setup a queue that you setup for the DVD and it will do all the work. Of course its double the price at $120 but heck its worth it. This is info on a file from Promo Only mp4-goal.jpg (13.41 KiB) Viewed 4 times This is info on a file that I tried to convert with the fullest settings with mp4 output mp4-current.jpg (14.62 KiB) Viewed 4 times You'll notice the bitrate is quite a bit lower but never fear, there is an answer. Use the following settings and you will be almost dead on with the same output. 1. On the Video tab: - Decoding = Decode To QuickTime - Decoding Mode = Automatic Selection - Output Codec = DV/DVCPRO - NTSC - Output Quality = High or Maximum Quality - Aspect Ratio = Automatic Adjustment 2. On the Audio tab: - Decoding = Decode To AIFF Format - Downmixing = 2 Channel Dolby Stereo - Dynamic Range = Normal Dynamic Range 3.
